My general intent in scanning and OCR'ing 'The Kalevik - Kallevig Family History 1755 - 1987' is to leave it in the original form in so far as that is possible. Text remains substantially as it was in the original, although it was passed through multiple iterations of spell and grammer check due to the poor quality of the OCR process results.
Most of the photos have not yet been cut from the fullpage scan copies and inserted into the text. These scanned photos are marginally useful, and the intent here is to gradually substitute scans of the original photos as and if they are submitted to me. If you are in custody of one or more of these photos, you can either have it scanned and send the image (preferable from my perspective), or send the original and I will scan it for you. I have substitued one photo by Jens Kristian Ellingsen because it is such a great improvement, and to demonstrate the concept. This photo also serves to demonstrate the way all photos will be implemented. The version that loads when you first load the page is a "Thumbnail", but if you click it you will find a larger version.
The SCANNED PAGES are also available, although even when 700x700 pixel gif files, they are about 20 to 30 KB each, and take some time to download. These will also be available on CD in a variety of sizes and resolutions. There will be only one CD, and it is unclear just how many versions will fit. I will charge for the CD's, except for the family member in each of the Elias and Johannes branches that will help with this project by correcting the OCR text. This was the most tedious part of the whole process so far, and it would be more difficult for me to do those branches since I do not know the particulars of the families.
There will be more here later, so check this page now and again.
Enjoy.
